SUMMARY:2017 International “Floodfighter” Emergency Management\, Flood and Water Rescue Master Class Hosted by Charlotte Fire Department\, USA
DESCRIPTION:In what has become a vital bi-annual SLSGB ‘International Floodfighters’ conference to showcase current best practice\, review new techniques\, equipment and emergency management guidance. This continues the highly successful series of Masterclass Conferences and Workshops\, following an over twelve-year partnership programme of exchange visits of first responders and managers\, including volunteers\, from the UK\, wider Europe\, Australia and US. To date several hundred UK and international delegates have attended workshops hosted by colleagues in the US\, and acquired the highest value tactical water rescue skillsets and knowledge. (The conference is recognised by the IFE as a CPD qualifying event – usually over 60 hours!)Real world extreme weather set challenges in the water and flood rescue field\, reinforcing the need to share vital knowledge to support response\, strategic management and tactics. Challenges for the future come not only from the old foe the weather but budget matters in trying to form services of the highest efficiencies – knowledge and proficiency is vital for community protection. \nAn intense programme in techniques and of immersion involvement in development to make the most of the investment in time and budget\, but also there will be ample opportunity to network with fellow responders in this vital work. A tightened high intensity programme will focus on techniques for example SAR in both river search and wide area search operations and multiple boat operations along with the use of ‘SAR UAS’ (drones) for reconnaissance and search – what does this mean for the future (?)\, and so it goes on. With an emphasis on working in the field (from the out of Charlotte city hotel base) for the first five days with night boat rescue operations and navigation techniques to the fore supplemented with “HART” – the mountain and helo-aquatic rescue (helicopter operations) and reconnaissance techniques. Supplemented by a ‘Dive Rescue Station 38’ visit for further technical input on dive SAR operations and specialist fire and rescue boat operations. An ambitious and intense level of inputs\, intended to be enjoyable as well for a satisfactory development programme. \nTarget Audience profile: those responsible for strategy\, response and tactical operations to include SAR operators\, government representatives\, specialist flood and water response staff and senior managers\, flood incident managers\, instructors\, tactical advisers and those responsible for specialist rescue training or procurement of flood and water rescue response apparatus and services. An opportunity for managers and tacticians to share their protocols for the benefit of all. \nTraining Costs: our hosts in Charlotte assist by providing support for international guests in conjunction with the support service partner Professional Rescue. SUMMARY:ILS Asia-Pacific Sport Development Workshop
DESCRIPTION:ILS Asia-Pacific is conducting a lifesaving sport workshop comprising a number of theory and practical sessions delivered by relevant experts in their fields and supported by emerging coaches targeted at beach/ocean lifesaving coaches. This project will be under the guidance and support of ILS Asia Pacific and its key developed Member Organisations.\nBackground \nThe International Life Saving Federation (ILS) is the world authority for drowning prevention\, lifesaving and lifesaving sport. ILS leads\, collaborates and partners with national and international organisations to prevent drowning\, to promote the provision of lifesaving services and oversee lifesaving sport throughout the world.  \nILS promotes and organises lifesaving sports and regularly organises international aquatic lifesaving competitions in order to stimulate the interest of competitors to improve their ability and willingness to save people who are in danger in the aquatic environment. Lifesaving sport helps develop the lifesavers’ skills\, knowledge and techniques\, and plays an important role in providing opportunities to enhance global relationships among ILS Member Organisations. \nLifesaving sport engages youth and adults from all nations in the mutual pursuit of excellence in lifesaving. The global focus on cooperation and teamwork to reduce the burden of drowning is a compelling opportunity. Increasing the participation of youth in lifesaving sport is part of the engagement strategy. Lifesaving sport is an important component of this mission. \nThis Project will provide an opportunity for the International Life Saving Federation (ILS) Asia Pacific Region to further develop capacity and capability in the sport of beach/ocean lifesaving within its member organisations. \nStrategic \nOne of the primary goals of the ILS within its Strategic Framework 2016 to 2020 is to “expand the scope\, reach and recognition of lifesaving sport.” \nFurther\, the ILS Asia Pacific Regional Plan 2016 to 2020 has identified Sport development as a priority area. Specifically\, “a coordinated approach to working together to develop lifesaving sport athletes\, officials and event managers\, increasing the number and quality of sport development opportunities by linking to existing events\, running workshops and engaging in the Lifesaving World Championships in our region.” \nThis project will deliver on a key strategic goal of ILS and its Asia Pacific Region. \nProject \nProject Title: Lifesaving as a Sport – Beach/Ocean Coaching Workshop \nProject purpose: To deliver a lifesaving sport workshop targeted at beach/ocean lifesaving coaches that draws together those ILS Member Organsisations where their respective lifesaving sport program is developing or emerging and which needs further skill development. This project will be under the guidance and support of ILS Asia Pacific and its key developed Member Organisations. \nProject objective: To stimulate and facilitate increased lifesaving sport activity through focusing on coaching to build local capacity in beach/ocean lifesaving sport knowledge\, skill and networks which with ongoing guidance and assistance will lead to a improved sporting opportunities and also contribute to a reduction in drowning death and injury across the Asia Pacific Region. \nProject overview: The project is essentially a workshop comprising of both therory and practical sessions held in a strategic regional location that enables targeted ILS Member Organisations while minimising costs of participation. \nThe activities would include: \nA beach/ocean lifesaving sport coaching program that comprises a number of theory and practical sessions delivered by relevant experts in their fields and supported by emerging coaches.\nParticipation in a beach/ocean lifesaving competition whereby program participants can put their new learning to practice while under the supervision and mentorship.
